The Crisis & Our Local Response

On November 1st, 86,000 Utah families did not receive their SNAP benefits due to the federal government shutdown. For many families who were already struggling, this meant choosing between the most basic necessities: food, heat, gas, and medicine.

At Neighborhood House, we are on the frontline of this crisis. 92% of the families we serve are living at or below the poverty line. We provide essential, sliding-fee childcare that costs families an average of just $8 a day, allowing parents to keep working.

But with vital SNAP benefits held back, even that $8 became the difference between dinner and an empty table.

We can’t change what’s happening in DC, but we can care for SLC.

When the future felt uncertain, our donors stepped up! And because of generous people like you, families did not face the holidays alone.

We are grateful for:

  • $68,617 raised! 137% of our campaign goal;
  • 8,600 pounds of food collected and distributed (more than 4.3 tons of nourishment for families);
  • 83 families received financial hardship assistance, helping them remain enrolled and supported during this period of instability;
  • Pantry shelves were stocked and 85 holiday food baskets were distributed, ensuring families had access to nutritious food through the holidays and into the new year.

Together, you helped Neighborhood House expand food access and provide critical tuition relief when families needed it most.

Your support didn’t end with the campaign! It helped families stay stable, nourished, and supported through the holidays and beyond. From all of us at Neighborhood House, thank you for responding with compassion during a moment of uncertainty. Your trust and generosity continue to make a lasting difference.

Thank you!
